Borne from the Beyond Borders Book Club, our small press publishes literature that looks beyond borders to examine societal issues and to challenge social binaries.
Clarissa Riojas is a community organizer, educator, and fronteriza. She is the program director of Texas Turnout, a non-partisan voting engagement and outreach program established to increase youth voter turnout in the Rio Grande Valley. She taught middle school English for 9 years and served as Vice-President for her school district's teacher union. She formed the Beyond Borders Book Club in 2023 to foster a community of readers who believe in books as tools for social change.
Thomas Ray Garcia is a writer, educator, entrepreneur, and public servant. He is the author of The River Runs: Stories and the co-author of El Curso de la Raza: The Education of Aurelio Manuel Montemayor. He is also the founder and board chair of the College Scholarship Leadership Access Program (CSLAP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that teaches college access classes and connects near-peer mentors to high school students in the Rio Grande Valley.
